What (if anything) are people using to backup their LJ posts and comments?

Specifically I'm looking for things that make it into a file format that still looks like an LJ. ljArchive did this. However I want it to still work. Sadly ljArchive is not currently working. I can read my old stuff which was kind of awesome and fun, but not capture the new stuff.

Why yes, I last backed up my LJ in 2008. This was probably shortly before I last backed up my computer. Are we noticing a pattern here? At least I have a reasonably good track record of doing it at all (though it is much more intermittent than would be ideal.

Anyways. What file types would be able to be navigated like an LJ? What programs are still functioning to grab LJs and comments in one functional whole?

Thanks everyone!

Currently there appears to be nothing that'll grab both body and comments. The key bit of code which enabled LJArchive and others to grab what they grabbed has been removed.

LJ removed it?

Or the archive programs removed it?

Peh and damn.

Is there something that will grab comments and somethign that will grab posts, or is it posts only unless you do it manually?

Because really, the comments are the awesome-est bits of looking back through. I like my own thoughts, but I like seeing those of others as well even when my main response is, wonder who Bouvely is... gosh they've cleaned out their LJ thoroughly (no posts, no data, no friends, just a parked name space)

LJ removed the hook the primary tools talked to, unfortunately. Thus also Dreamwidth import failing now. Grr.

Just tried to pull comments in history from Semagic - it appears that now even access to history won't work. WTF.

So, the only tool left - and this without comments - is the by-month LJ export tool:

I have no words for my frustration here, and am pretty sure the breakage is on purpose, though I don't know what their goal is.

Right then.. I suppose there's always opening each post in turn and saving the damn things.. Wonder if someone could/would/has written a script that would do exactly that.......

Or would doing that automatically just parse as a bot and get banned somehow...

Have you tried it coverts everything to PDF and does capture comments.

It does require your password though, so generally I change mine to something like LJBookAccess let LJBook do its thing and then change it back.

Only LJBook issue is the server gets overtaxed fairly easily so it takes a couple tries.

When was the last time you used this? It's currently refusing to pull mine (though it does have a note that LJ is experiencing issues that makes it non-functional for some users up on the main page)

I generally have to try at different times, I generally find off peak server times. It isn't the greatest robustestness but I like the output.

I use LJBook too, and I really like it. I have each year of my LJ stored in it's own pdf.

LJBook also appears to be broken for me. Have you tried it recently? Is it still up?

Still hoping to find something less kludgy than doing it one month at a time through LJ's export...

It worked for me at the end of July. Sometimes it takes a few tries before it works - it's taken me as long as a week to get it to cooperate.
